MEDINA COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL (MCAC) CELEBRATES 40TH BIRTHDAY WITH ARTS WEEK JULY 8TH-16TH AND WITH A CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS Medina
County, OH
– Medina County Arts Council is celebrating a momentous milestone – 40 years of advocating
for, nurturing and supporting the arts in Medina
County. Arts Week
takes place from July 8th through July 16th with a diverse range of
artistic experiences, activities and performances
throughout the county. The highlight of the week-long festivities will be a Celebration of the Arts on Wednesday, July 12 from 5 to 8pm in Medina’s Square. Students from local performing arts groups will be sharing their talents from the Gazebo. Attendees will be invited to participate in a community art mural, painting small canvases that will be combined to create a beautiful work of art and will then be displayed in the community. Various arts organizations will set up tables to share their missions and provide individual art projects. And what is a birthday without cake? There will be cake for all! This is a free event. Be sure to bring your chairs or blankets to be able to relax and enjoy the festivities. Throughout Arts Week, attendees can enjoy a variety of arts experiences starting with ORMACO’s Jazz Under the Stars on Saturday, July 8th on Medina’s Public Square with a free performance by Erin Nicole Neal and Jazz in the Blue and culminating with the 49th Annual Medina County Art League’s Art in the Park, a fine arts show that draws local artists and those from surrounding states on Sunday, July 16. Arts Week will feature a variety of art activities, workshops, and interactive installations spread across various venues throughout the county. From workshops and demonstrations like an African Drumming Workshop at the Brunswick Library and an interactive workshop with Hearts For Music, an ensemble of special needs children that play on different instruments to create beautiful music, to events like the combined performance of the Medina Community Band and Medina Chorus, the county’s oldest arts organizations, on the evening of Friday, July 14. The Arts Council is partnering with Medina County Parks District in an “Art in Nature” project to provide a very special art installation near the ponds of three parks: Carolyn Ludwig Mugrage Park in Granger, Hubbard Valley Park in Seville and Letha House West in Spencer. Three local non-profits – Integrated Community Solutions, Planet Joy Studio, and the Medina County Juvenile Detention Center will have their artists create pond creatures and wildlife out of wood to be installed by the park district. Visitors will enjoy traveling to the parks to enjoy the artwork. There will be free pop-up art classes at 10 am at each of the parks for all to come and enjoy. On Monday, July 10 at Hubbard Valley Park there will be a Watercolor Postcard Class. On Wednesday, July 12 there will be a paper pinwheel making class at Mugrage Park. On Friday, July 14 there will be a Tie Dying Bandana class at Letha House Park West. All classes are free but you are asked to register in advance at to ensure enough supplies are available.
