Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) continues its free Sunday Concerts in the Country series in a program entitled “Sounds of Seasons” with the Strauss Duo on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at 2 pm.
Featuring violist Michael Issac Strauss and cellist Cathleen Parlow Strauss, the duo will perform solo and duo works for viola and cello featuring Becky Archibald’s Our Day in the Sun.
The program will take place at HeARTland, 8187 Camp Road Homerville, Ohio, 44235. In the event of rain the concert will take place at the Homerville United Methodist Church, 8964 Spencer Road, Homerville, Ohio, 44235.

About the Musicians
Cathleen Partlow Strauss spent a large part of her professional life as a performing cellist and teacher before devoting her energy to arts administration in communications, marketing, and development. As a performer, Strauss founded the Bartholdy Trio and performed with them for ten years, primarily touring the Southeast U.S. She also served as a North Carolina Visiting Artist where she performed on and administrated an annual concert series; commissioned visual art and musical works; coproduced events and festivals; and presented hundreds of educational outreach programs.
As an orchestral cellist, she served as principal cellist of the South Carolina Philharmonic for three seasons and subsequently performed with the Charleston (S.C.), Jacksonville (Fla.), Indianapolis symphony orchestras, as well as the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. For six years, she co-produced and performed on the Central Indiana chamber music series, Music @ Shaarey Tefilla, with her husband, violist Michael Isaac Strauss. She taught privately for 30 years and held cello faculty positions at Columbia College (S.C.), University of Indianapolis’ Community Music Program, and Appalachian State University’s Cannon Music Camp.
Prior to her appointment as Oberlin Conservatory’s Director of Communications in 2012, Strauss spent 18 years in Indianapolis, serving the arts community in a series of administrative positions as director of communications and development for Indianapolis Ballet, director of public relations for the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, and general manager of the Carmel (IN) Symphony Orchestra. A native of Pennsylvania, Strauss is a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy, Oberlin Conservatory (B.M), and the University of South Carolina (M.M).
About Michael Isaac Strauss
Known for his “rich tone and lyrical acumen” (Chicago Tribune), violist Michael Isaac Strauss has performed around the world as a soloist, recitalist, in chamber music, and in symphonic settings. He made his solo debut with the Minnesota Orchestra in 1990 and has since appeared as featured solo or recording artist with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Orchestra 2001, Charleston Symphony, Harrisburg Symphony, and Camerata Chicago, among others. During his 20-year tenure as the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra principal violist, Strauss was also featured as soloist or collaborator in duo roles nearly every season.
Strauss currently performs with The Indianapolis Quartet and the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra. He serves on the performing artist roster and faculty at the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival and the Berkshire High Peaks Festival.
A devoted teacher, Strauss serves on the faculty of the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University and the University of Indianapolis. He regularly presents master classes and coaches developing to advanced students and professionals in orchestral audition preparation. He has previously held faculty positions at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Roosevelt University, DePauw University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Butler University, University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and Swarthmore College.
